Services to Armed Forces


 

The American Red Cross, by congressional charter, coordinates emergency communications between armed forces personnel and their families. In the event of a death, illness, critical accident, or birth in the serviceperson's immediate family. Services to Armed Forces (SAF) volunteer caseworkers verify the accuracy of the communication so that the serviceperson's commanding officer has accurate information upon which to base decisions about emergency leave.

Members of the Armed Forces and their families encounter stress not always experienced in civilian life. The American Red Cross provides vital services for all military members and their families. Whether you are active duty military, Reserve, National Guard or other community-based military, the Red Cross is here for you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You can count on the American Red Cross to assist in providing emergency communications and assistance in obtaining emergency financial assistance through the military aid socieities when needed. The Red Cross has both emergency and non-emergency services available to military members and their families in communities through the United States including Frederick County.

 

If your loved one is away from home because of military duty and you need to get in touch with him or her in the event of an emergency, the Red Cross is here to help. The Red Cross works directly with mlitary commands to provide verifications for emergencies to assist the command in making leave decisions. To assist us in quickly locating and delivering messages, please have the following information when you contact us.

  • Service Member's Full Name
  • Rank/Rating
  • Branch of Service
  • Social Security Number
  • Name of Unit
  • Military Address (where he/she receives mail)
  • Doctor/Hospital/Funeral Home name, location and phone number, if possible.

For non-emergencies or those that the Red Cross is unable to verify, we recommend that you contact Military OneSource.

Education, relocation, parenting, stress - you name it - Military OneSource is there to help you with just about any need. The service is completely private and confidential, with few exceptions.
