Lifeguard Training

Trains participants  to  recognize aquatic emergencies and act promptly and appropriately; understand the value of behaving in a professional manner; perform equipment-based rescue skills and techniques; and learn how to provide first aid and CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator.

American Red Cross Learn To Swim Programs

The Frederick County Chapter provides Red Cross aquatic programs throughout the community with Red Cross-trained  instructors that teach these courses through public and private authorized providers. All third party instructors set their own course schedule, register their own participants and determine their own fee structure. Contact the chapter for more information about these courses.

Parent & Child Aquatics Skills Program

This course is designed to help young children from 6 months through age 5 become comfortable in and around the water so that they are ready to learn to swim. A parent or other caregiving adult is required to accompany each child in the water and participate in the classes.

Learn to Swim - Levels 1-6

From Level 1 (Water Exploration), which orients participants  to the aquatic environment and teaches them elementary skills, through Level  6, that reviews and perfects all strokes and skills presented at various levels, these courses encourage good lifetime fitness habits.

Water Safety Instructor

The purpose of the Water Safety Instructor course is to train candidates to teach courses in the Swimming and Water Safety Program by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants progress. Instructor candidates must by 16 years of age by the end of the instructor course.  Fundamentals of Instructor Training is a prerequisite to the Water Safety Instructor Course.

Lifeguarding Instructor

The purpose of the Lifeguarding Instructor course is to train candidates to teach Lifeguard Training (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid), AED Essentials, Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer, Preventing Disease Transmission, Community Water Safety and Basic Water Rescue.  The training prepares instructor candidates by developing their understanding of how to use course materials, how to conduct training sessions, and how to evaluate participants' progress. Fundamentals of Instructor Training is a prerequisite to the Lifeguard Training Instructor course.
